Okocha grace Yobo testimonial match

Former Nigeria captain, Joseph Yobo on Friday, officially quit competitive football as Team Nigeria defeated Team World 5-4 in Port Harcourt in a testimonial played in his honour. However, another former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha, stole the show at the capacity-filled Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium during the testimonial which featured a number of football stars on the continent. Okocha first captained the Super Eagles Stars (Team Nigeria) in the first half and came back to play for the Yobo and Friends (Team World) in the second half before he was later replaced by Azubuike Okechukwu. The former Bolton Wanderers player  was a delight to watch as he reignited some of his  exceptional qualities which made him the toast of many Nigerian fans in his heyday. Emmanuel Emenike who was the first scorer on the day finished with a hat-trick for Team Nigeria, who also paraded goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Ahmed Musa, Godfrey Oboabona, Mutiu Adepoju, Kanu Nwankwo, Joel Obi (who scored his

Albinism and Africa

People with albinism in Malawi are at risk of “systemic extinction” due to relentless attacks fueled by superstitions, the United Nations’ top expert on albinism said on her first official visit in her new role. At least 65 cases of violence against people with albinism including killings and dismemberment have been recorded by police in Malawi since late 2014, said Ikponwosa Ero, the U.N.’s independent expert on human rights and albinism. People with albinism live in danger in regions of the world where their body parts are valued in witchcraft and can fetch a high price. Superstition leads many to believe albino children bring bad luck. In Malawi, where people with albinism number around 10,000 out of a population of around 16.5 million, the situation amounted to “an emergency, a crisis disturbing in its proportions”, she said. Some of the Malawians with albinism she met compared their ordeal to that of endangered species in the wild, Ero told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a

Don Jazzy finally speaks about Tiwa and husband

Don Jazzy is finally back on social media since Tiwa Savage’s drama broke, and while the Mavin boss did not mention the claims that he had an affair with his record label’s leading lady, he showed support for Dr SID who was also accused of cheating with the singer. “My brother from another mother. The most misunderstood person I know. If only the world can know you like we know you,” Don Jazzy said in the very sober post, adding, “But at the end of the day, all that matters is that God sees your kind heart.” It is unclear if the music producer is addressing the accusation by Tee Billz that he and Dr SID slept with Tiwa Savage, but the sadness in his post can almost be felt.

Real mother or step mother

Can we chew this for the day It's about a woman who abandoned her husband and her 4 year old son for her rich boyfriend. ... and they both (woman & boyfriend) eventually traveled to the U.S.A Out of frustration & desperation the husband went and married another woman. Unfortunately the second woman couldn't bear a child for the husband. Despite her inability to bear a child, the 2nd woman took great care of the boy & treated him like her own son. Few years later, the husband died in a car accident. The 2nd wife did everything in her power to educate the boy, she engaged in petty trade such as pepper, Maggie, salt, palm oil, onion, tomatoes, etc, in the market square in order to sponsor the boy's schooling. The boy only knew his step mother as his real mother & there4, he called her Mama. The real mother in the U.S.A did not for once ask about the wellbeing of her son thoughtless of sending a penny for the boy's upkeep, even afte

We call incantations ofo not Ogede

Octogenarian Oba James Aladesuru, the Onigede of Igede-Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, ascended the throne in 1959 when he was still acquiring formal education. He speaks with Sam Nwaoko on his experiences and the community since then. Excerpts: Your majesty, what remarkable changes would you say have taken place in Igede between 1959 you ascended the throne and now? The most remarkable one is the current size of the town. Igede is twice the size it was then and now. There were also numerous thatch and mud houses. So also was the road. I had been on the throne before it was tarred to Ado Ekiti and the road became so very different. Another remarkable landmark was when  Ondo State was created. We trooped to the palace of the Deji of Akure to felicitate with him and discussed the state long before Ekiti was created. The creation of Ekiti meant that Ondo State had grown and we pray that Ekiti would continue to wax strong.   You were in s
