Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, arrested by police

Osogbo – Star Yoruba movie actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, Wednesday had a bruise with some armed policemen in Osogbo when the vehicle she was traveling with was impounded by them. It was gathered that while a minor misunderstanding between the actress and the policemen that impounded her vehicle appeared settled, and her seized vehicle particulars released, some armed policemen suddenly appeared and rearrested the actress and her driver. Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the actress who was travelling in gold-colour Honda end-of-discussion, was flagged down while driving towards Olaiya Junction in Osogbo. A source added that the vehicle was allegedly arrested because its driver was making call while others claimed police cap was put on the dash board of the vehicle which attracted the policemen. THE NAIRA ON WEDNESDAY DEPRECIATED SLIGHTLY AT PARALLEL MARKET

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the naira lost 50 kobo on Wednesday afternoon, from N320 it traded on Monday. However, the naira traded against the Pound Sterling and the Euro at N457 and N361 respectively, weakening further against the Pound. Meanwhile, the Nigerian currency maintained N197 to the dollar at the official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN’s) rate. Traders at the market complained of low activities but however, expressed delight at the efforts by the executive and the legislature to resolve issues surrounding the 2016 budget. Industry watchers had also said that with the appreciation of oil at the international market, the nation’s revenue would increase and the naira would he strengthened. Palestine to unveil Mandela statue on National Day

RAMALLAH -  The city of Ramallah has declared Tuesday a national day as it prepares to unveil the statue of Nelson Mandela  at a square named after the first democratically elected South African president. “We see the statue as a symbol of friendship, as a symbol of demonstrating our solidarity but also hopefully  as an inspiration to the people of Palestine that you indeed would be able to achieve your freedom ,” said Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau. He is in the city leading a South African delegation that will be present during the historic moment as well as President Mahmoud Abbas and Ramallah Mayor Mousa Hadid. “We are here as the people of South Africa to say we stand in solidarity with you, we stand in solidarity with your struggles and we understand the difficulties that you go through.” “Ultimately it is when you have experienced the real hardships of the people of Palestine that you understand the difficult situation that the people of Palestine are going through,” said Tau.

SUSPECTED METEOR: Unease as ‘mystery stone’falls from the sky in Taraba

About 10:45 am on  March 12, farmers and hunters in Tse-Agena  area  of Mbatyula  in Takum local government area of Taraba State heard  a loud sound from the sky and then an object, suspected to be meteorite stone, landed. The landing of  the white object created panic. meteoriteWomen and children were asked to vacate  the farms immediately while men went  to pick the object. Mr. Shausu Agena, a  farmer and an eye witness, said the object landed on a big tree in an empty farm land. Agena, while speaking to Sunday Vanguard inside his hut in the village, said heavy sound  accompanied the  falling of the object from the sky. The clan head of Mbatyula, Zaki Bem Tom, also disclosed that the object landed with a sound that was heard in  several  communities. “It was in the morning. People were in their various farms when the object landed within our community. It was very shocking because some of us that witnessed it descending from the sky thought it was the end of the world,” Ben Tom
